Uzbekistan Advances Breast Cancer Care with First National Guideline and Latest Academy

Uzbekistan is making significant strides in improving breast cancer care through the development of its first National Breast Cancer Guideline and the launch of the Breast Expert Academy. These initiatives aim to elevate standards of care, foster collaboration, and provide patients with access to high-quality treatment.

National Breast Cancer Guideline Development

The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan is currently developing its first National Breast Cancer Guideline, a collaborative effort with the World Health Organization (WHO) and experts from Georgia. The first draft of the guidelines, presented recently, incorporates best practices in diagnostics, surgery, radiotherapy, medical oncology, and palliative care.

Alisher Kahharov, Head of the Breast Cancer Surgery Department at the Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Oncology and Radiology, is leading the initiative as the coordinator of the expert group. He expressed gratitude for the support of Dr. Rolando Camacho, a WHO expert, and the contributions of Dr. Dilshod Egamberdiev, national coordinator for the cancer control plan, as well as the Georgian expert team.

The Georgian team includes Dr. Nia Sharikadze (coordination), Dr. Ioseb Abesadze (palliative care), Dr. Tamar Charkviani (radiology), Dr. Armaz Mariamidze (pathology), Dr. Irakli Sikharulidze (surgical oncology), Dr. Natalia Jankarashvili (radiation oncology), Dr. Tako Esakia (medical oncology), and nurse Maria Latsenko.

Launch of the Breast Expert Academy

Alisher Kahharov, also the Founder of the Breast Expert Academy, announced the launch of the academy with a vision to transform breast health, cancer treatment, and aesthetic care across Uzbekistan and Central Asia. The academy aims to create a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among healthcare professionals in the region.

The academy’s flagship event, the Masterclass ‘Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Care: Uniting Efforts in the Fight Against Breast Cancer,’ is scheduled for June 2026. This intensive three-day program will cover epidemiology, genetic risk assessment, advanced diagnostic imaging, surgical techniques, systemic therapies, and personalized medicine.

Beyond the masterclass, the Breast Expert Academy will offer workshops, courses, webinars, and expert panels to support continuous professional development and the adoption of innovative practices.

He is a breast cancer specialist, oncologist, researcher, and educator with a specialty thesis on the tumor microenvironment in breast cancer.
