Actor Brian Austin Green has revealed that a severe neurological health crisis left him temporarily unable to walk, talk, read, or write. The 53-year-old Beverly Hills, 90210 alum shared details of the frightening medical ordeal during an appearance on the August 26 episode of the Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson podcast, explaining that the symptoms severely disrupted his daily life for years.
Neurological Symptoms and Recovery Timeline
According to Green, the frightening health struggle began when he was approximately 39 or 40 years old. He described the episode as a “neurological thing” that involved severe, “stroke-like” symptoms. The impact on his independence was profound, forcing him to relearn fundamental life skills from scratch. “I had to learn how to walk again, to talk again,” Green told host Kara Mayer Robinson, adding that he completely lost his ability to read and write during the worst phase of the illness.
Green recounted that his brain and body felt entirely disconnected during the ordeal. He estimated that his recovery process took roughly four and a half years. While doctors never reached a definitive, complete diagnosis for the neurological symptoms, Green believes internal inflammation played a major role, pointing to diet and emotional stress as potential contributing factors.

His recent interview provides deeper context regarding how drastically those symptoms altered his daily functioning before he eventually regained his lost abilities.

Beyond his physical recovery, Green credited therapy with helping him navigate his emotional well-being. He has previously discussed how professional mental health support helped reshape his perspective on relationships following his marriage to Megan Fox. Now fully recovered, Green continues his acting career and recently connected with former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Tori Spelling during an Instagram Live session regarding her podcast departure, viewing his multi-year health battle as a definitive turning point in his life.
