Did You Miss the ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Wedding? Here’s What Happened After the Credits
“Bridgerton” Season 4 delivered a magical finale, but viewers almost missed a crucial moment if they didn’t watch until after the credits rolled. The season’s final episode was packed with drama: Sophie’s arrest, Benedict’s rescue, a steamy bath, Michaela’s departure, Francesca’s grief, and a plan to secure Sophie and Benedict’s future—all approved by the Queen. A new Lady Whistledown was also revealed.
Showrunner Jess Brownell explained to TVLine that the finale’s ending required adjustments due to the sheer volume of events.1 While the books foreshadow a marriage for Benedict and Sophie, the adaptation initially left viewers questioning whether the show would follow suit.
After Sophie and Benedict share a kiss in the finale—in the same spot as their masked embrace—Lady Whistledown begins her narration: “Dear reader, we are going to have so much fun.” Then, the credits start.
Yet, those who remained seated were rewarded. As the credits conclude, wedding bells ring, and Season 4 ends as expected: Sophie and Benedict exchange vows in a brief but beautiful ceremony, witnessed by the Bridgerton family.
“That was originally meant to come up immediately after the rest of the action finishes,” Brownell said. “But once we got into the edit, [executive producer] Shonda [Rhimes] and I were like, ‘Woof! So much happens at the finish of this episode.’” 1
By adjusting the episode’s timing, Brownell aimed to give viewers a moment to process the season’s events before “really appreciat[ing] the glory of the wedding.” Including the wedding as an epilogue, she says, “It really feels like you get this fairytale, perfect ending for Sophie.” 1
