Britney Spears Arrested for DUI in Ventura County

Pop superstar Britney Spears was arrested in Ventura County, California, on Wednesday night for driving under the influence, according to law enforcement sources via TMZ and WCVB Channel 5.

Details of the Arrest

The California Highway Patrol arrested Spears around 9:30 PM local time on Wednesday. She was booked into jail around 3:00 AM Thursday and released shortly after 6:00 AM, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. Her vehicle was impounded during the arrest.

Statement from Spears’ Representative

A representative for Spears released a statement calling the incident “completely inexcusable.” The statement, reported by WCVB and the Los Angeles Times, indicated that Spears intends to comply with the law and that the incident could be a catalyst for positive change in her life. The representative also expressed hope that Spears would receive the necessary help and support during this difficult time.

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her,” the representative added. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”

Previous Legal Issues and Conservatorship

This is not Spears’ first encounter with the legal system. In 2007, she was charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run, which was later dismissed after she paid for the damages according to CNN.

Spears was placed under a 13-year conservatorship in 2008 following a psychiatric evaluation. The conservatorship, which controlled her career and finances, was terminated in 2021 after a widespread “Free Britney” movement CNN reported. Since the end of the conservatorship, Spears has primarily communicated with fans through social media, particularly Instagram.

Upcoming Court Hearing

Spears, 44, is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 as stated by the Los Angeles Times.
