Britney Spears Announces She Will Not Perform in the United States again
Multiple news outlets are reporting that Britney Spears has stated she will no longer perform in the United States, citing “extremely sensitive reasons.” The announcement comes after a period of reflection for the singer, following the end of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021.
According to HLN, Spears made the announcement via an Instagram post. RTL.nl and Newsmonkey also reported on the news, echoing the “extremely sensitive reasons” clarification. AD.nl directly quotes Spears as saying, “I will never perform in the United States again.”
While Spears has not publicly detailed the specific reasons behind her decision, it is indeed widely understood to be connected to the trauma she experienced during her conservatorship. The conservatorship, which began in 2008, stripped spears of many of her personal and professional freedoms.
This decision follows the release of her memoir, The Woman in Me, in October 2023, where she detailed her experiences under the conservatorship. The book became a New York Times bestseller and sparked further conversation about conservatorship laws and the treatment of artists within the entertainment industry.
As of January 9, 2024, Spears has not indicated any plans to perform internationally.
