Bronze Age Spearhead Mold Unearthed in Czech Republic Reveals Insights into Ancient Weapon Production
A remarkable discovery in the Czech Republic has shed new light on Bronze Age technology and trade networks. A homeowner in the village of Morkůvky unearthed a remarkably well-preserved mold used to cast bronze spearheads, dating back to approximately 1350 B.C. The find offers a rare glimpse into the serial production of weaponry during the Urnfield culture.
From Garden Stone to Archaeological Treasure
The object, initially mistaken for a simple rectangular stone, was part of the foundation of an old barn when discovered by J. Tomanec in 2007. After being brought to the attention of experts at the Moravian Museum in 2019, it was identified as half of a sophisticated casting mold Live Science. X-ray fluorescence scans confirmed that bronze had been cast within the mold, and that the two halves were held together with copper wire.
A Masterpiece of Bronze Age Engineering

Imported Materials and Regional Trade
