Telemundo Secures Bundesliga Spanish-Language Rights

The Bundesliga has finalized a three-season media rights expansion in the United States, signing a deal with Telemundo to provide Spanish-language coverage through 2029. Valued at approximately $10 million annually, the agreement ensures the German top flight maintains a dual-language footprint in the American market, complementing a separate five-year English-language partnership with Versant.

Broadcasting Over 100 Matches Per Season

Telemundo will carry more than 100 matches per season from the Bundesliga. Broadcasts are scheduled across Telemundo and Universo linear networks, with additional streaming availability on NBC’s Peacock service. The arrangement runs through the conclusion of the 2028-29 season. Meanwhile, Versant will utilize the USA Sports linear network and the Fandango streaming platform to distribute English-language content. Both deals were facilitated by Relevent Sports, which entered a long-term strategic partnership with the Bundesliga in 2024 to manage commercial growth and media rights across the Americas.

Capitalizing on a 43% Fanbase Surge

The United States remains a primary target for the league’s international expansion. Domestic data shows the fanbase has grown by 43% over the last five years. To sustain this momentum, the league is leaning into localized social media, with Spanish-language Instagram and TikTok channels now reaching over 548,500 followers combined.

For Telemundo, the acquisition is a strategic play to retain viewership following its role as a broadcaster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Leveraging American Talent and History

The Bundesliga’s visibility is bolstered by a U.S. player presence. Nine players from the US currently occupy rosters, including Malik Tillman at Bayer Leverkusen and Giovanni Reyna at Borussia Mönchengladbach. While the league currently lacks Mexican representation, it maintains a connection to the region, having featured players such as Javier Hernandez and Pavel Pardo in previous seasons.

Robin Austermann, executive vice president at the Bundesliga Americas division, stated that these media partnerships are designed to bring the competition “closer to more fans across the United States than ever before.”
