Bundesliga Tips for Matchday 16 – 2025/2026

The short winter break is over, and the bundesliga starts again this week. Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund will play the first match of 2026 on Friday evening – a game that’s critically important for both teams. On Saturday, the new Mainz coach Urs Fischer will meet his “old love” Union Berlin. A big match awaits on Saturday evening with Leverkusen against Stuttgart. Bayern wants to extend their lead in the table on Sunday – they should do that with a home win against Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga starts the new year on the second weekend in January and finishes the first half of the season in a busy week before the second half begins. It starts with the 16th matchday, which includes two top games and important matches for teams fighting relegation.

Friday: Frankfurt Wants Revenge Against BVB

Two and a half months after Borussia Dortmund’s penalty shootout win in the cup, the 16th matchday of the Bundesliga will see a rematch between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund. Frankfurt could move from seventh to fifth place, at least temporarily, while BVB could solidify second place with a win and put some pressure on league leaders FC Bayern Munich.

Our forecast: Frankfurt has stabilized after the 6-0 loss in Leipzig in early December.
