Caen BC Bolsters Roster with Dexter Akanno Amidst Injury Challenges

Caen BC has announced the signing of American guard Dexter Akanno to reinforce their squad, following an injury to Marc-Eddy Norelia and with key players away on international duty. The move comes as the French ProB league approaches a crucial stage, with teams racing to finalize their rosters before the February 28th deadline for qualifying recruits.

Navigating Roster Constraints and International Absences

Following Marc-Eddy Norelia’s injury, Caen BC had a vacant roster spot and the flexibility to add a fourth non-EU player. The club opted to utilize this opportunity during the international break, securing Akanno’s services just ahead of the qualification deadline. Currently, Caen features Kentan Facey and Rashad Davis as their other non-EU players.

Dexter Akanno: A Profile

Dexter Akanno, a 6’6″ winger, joins Caen BC after a stint with Gladiators Trier in the German BBL league. There, he averaged 4.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in approximately 10 minutes per game. Akanno brings a reputation as a reliable three-point shooter and a player capable of injecting pace into the offense. He has prior experience in the NCAA before making his European debut.

Jacques Schneider, coach of Gladiators Trier, expressed his confidence in Akanno’s future, stating, “I am delighted that Dexter will have the opportunity to continue his career in Europe, in another team, where he will play a more significant role. This will undoubtedly be particularly beneficial for his development. He has integrated seamlessly into our team, being incredibly positive and motivated and has contributed to our success so far. I would like to particularly thank him for his commitment to the Gladiators jersey. A promising future awaits him, and I am absolutely convinced that he too will have excellent memories of the Gladiators. I wish him the best for the rest of his career.”

Looking Ahead: Integration and Upcoming Fixtures

Akanno arrived in Normandy on February 26th and underwent a medical examination. He joins Darel Poirier as recent additions to the Caen BC roster. With Facey and Davis currently representing their national teams, Akanno and Poirier will be crucial in providing immediate support. Caen BC has 14 players under contract, with a maximum allowance of 18 for the season.

The team will be tested quickly, with their next match scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026, against Blois at the Palais des Sports.
