Café Momentum Expands Mission with New East Dallas Flagship
For over a decade, Café Momentum has been more than just a culinary destination in Dallas; it has served as a catalyst for transforming the lives of youth impacted by the juvenile justice system. The organization is expanding its reach with a new, two-story flagship center in East Dallas, slated to open in January 2027.
A New Hub for Opportunity
The new 11,000-square-foot center, located at 1000 Oak St. At Greenwood Street, will house Café Momentum’s operations, training programs, and its restaurant, which is open to the public. The privately funded project represents a $10 million investment in the community and the youth it serves. The menu will remain seasonally driven, with the potential addition of a Wednesday night dinner service, and will now include a patio.
Partnership with The Meadows Foundation
The expansion was made possible through a partnership with The Meadows Foundation, which donated a 0.8-acre plot in East Dallas. This partnership eliminates rental costs and places the new flagship within the Wilson Historic District on the Meadows Campus, a hub for 33 nonprofit organizations. Gordon Highlander is the construction firm responsible for building the new facility.
Café Momentum’s Mission
Founded in 2008 by Chef Chad Houser, Café Momentum provides justice-involved youth, ages 15-19, with industry skills and a supportive environment. The organization’s model focuses on equipping young people with the life skills, education, and employment opportunities needed to achieve their full potential. As of recent data, approximately 36,500 youth under the age of 18 are detained in juvenile facilities on any given day, though this number has decreased in recent years.

A Decade of Impact
Over the past 10 years, Café Momentum has transformed the lives of nearly 1,700 young people. The organization’s success has garnered national recognition, positioning it as a blueprint for youth empowerment initiatives across the country. The Dallas location was named one of the “Top Ten Best New Restaurants in Dallas” in 2021 by the Dallas Morning News.
Looking Ahead
With the new East Dallas flagship, Café Momentum aims to scale its mission and expand its impact, offering more opportunities for justice-involved youth to rewrite their stories and build brighter futures. The organization continues to accept donations to support its programs and the Dream Beyond Capital Campaign for the Flagship, details of which can be found at cafemomentumflagship.com.
