Cagliari Approves New Stadium Renovations and Park Expansions
Cagliari has approved a comprehensive package of public works and social initiatives, committing 700mila euros to renovate the municipal football stadium on Via Figari. The executive administration, led by Massimo Zedda, advanced the measures during a Wednesday meeting on October 14, according to comune.cagliari.it.
The Via Figari stadium project combines 400mila euros in municipal funds with 300mila euros from regional financing. The upgrade includes a new artificial turf pitch and adjustments to the playing area to host official Second Category matches and the regional Under-18 Juniores championship.
Public Facilities and Sant’Elia Park Development
The city approved a separate 250mila-euro project funded entirely by municipal resources to build two prefabricated restroom modules between Via Vulcano and Via Stromboli. These facilities will serve economic operators and users of new designated spaces for mobile food and beverage vendors.
At the Parco Degli Anelli in Sant’Elia, the administration updated guidelines for a variant of the second and third project lots. Officials are planning a fourth completion lot with an estimated additional investment of 6 million euros under the 2027–2029 budget programming. Planned updates include fencing the entire park, revising parking zones, upgrading the open-air arena, and integrating the park with broader neighborhood renewal efforts.
In the same district, the administration approved the technical and economic feasibility study for the Parco Jovanotti project, backed by a 400mila-euro investment to enhance local landscape quality, environmental standards, and security for residents.
UNESCO Geopark Bid and Anti-Discrimination Network
The executive branch endorsed Cagliari’s bid to join the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network as part of the historical and environmental geomining park of Sardinia. The city will sign a Memorandum of Understanding alongside other participating territories, with a conditional municipal contribution of 1.000 euros activated only if UNESCO accepts the candidacy.

Cagliari also joined RE.A.DY, the national network of public administrations committed to preventing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. This affiliation involves signing an intent charter and sharing best practices with member administrations at no cost to public funds.
Youth Participation and the FEMINAS Initiative
The “Consiglio delle bambine e dei bambini” (Children’s Council) project will continue through the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 school years. Funded with roughly 33mila euros from the fund for the legality and protection of local administrators who are victims of intimidation acts, the council engages primary school students in municipal topics ranging from the environment and urban planning to human rights and gender equality.

For the FEMINAS cultural series—tied to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women—the municipality scheduled the 2026 edition under the title “FEMINAS. Cagliari contro la violenza. La responsabilità della violenza: sessant’anni dal “no” di Franca Viola”. A public call will establish a calendar of free community events running from November 21, 2026, to June 30, 2027, focusing heavily on the November 25 and March 8 observances, comune.cagliari.it reported.
Sports Facility Dedications Await Prefectural Approval
The administration designated eight local sports facilities to honor figures who distinguished themselves in their respective disciplines, pending final approval from the Prefecture. The football pitch in Piazza Lao Silesu will bear the name of Cenzo Soro, while the multipurpose facility between Via Pessagno and Via Rockefeller goes to Enzo Molinas. Olga Orrù receives the dedication for the multipurpose space between Via Mandrolisai, Via Sarrabus, and Via Monte Acuto. The Terrapieno sports space honors Maria Teresa Mameli Manunza, president of the Centro Sportivo Italiano in Sardinia in the 1970s.
Within the Villaggio Sportivo on Via Degli Sport, the boxing and martial arts gym honors Gianni Zuddas and Piero Rollo. Gymnasium A goes to Claudia Testoni—a European champion in the 80-meter hurdles in 1938—and Gymnasium B is dedicated to Gianfranco Fara, former sports director and president of Coni Sardinia.
