Cal Poly Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Four Matches Over Utah Valley

Cal Poly secured its fourth consecutive Big West victory by defeating Utah Valley in straight sets (25-14, 25-16, 25-19) on Oct. 3 at Lockhart Arena, mustangnews.net reported. The straight-set win moves the Mustangs to an 8-6 overall record and a 4-0 mark in conference play. Cal Poly controlled nearly the entire match, yielding a lead only at the start of the third set, while out-hitting the Wolverines .459 to .159.

Dominant Attack and Ball Movement Power Mustang Win

The Mustangs reached double-digit kills in every set, opening with 13 in the first frame. After a close start to the first set, Cal Poly broke away at 10-6. They set a commanding tone in the second set by jumping to a 7-1 lead and stretching the advantage to as many as 10 points before closing it out. Utah Valley attempted a comeback in the third set with a 4-0 run, but the Mustangs erased the deficit to tie at 6-6. Three consecutive kills by Cal Poly at 13-9 flipped the momentum permanently, allowing the team to finish the set 25-19.

Cal Poly finished the match with 41 team kills compared to Utah Valley’s 28. The Mustangs also registered 37 assists—10 more than their opponent—while limiting errors and producing five team blocks. Kendall Beshear, Kayla Murdoch, Charlotte Kelly, and Breklyn Pulling each recorded eight kills and scored at least nine points to drive the offense.

Conference Standings and Upcoming Southern California Road Trip

The result highlights diverging trajectories for both programs as Cal Poly captures its fourth straight win, while Utah Valley drops its second consecutive match. The Mustangs will continue their conference road trip in Southern California with a back-to-back slate on Oct. 9 and 10. They face Cal State Fullerton first, followed by a matchup against Long Beach State, with both contests scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
