Caleb Holt Commits to Arizona, Becoming Tommy Lloyd’s Highest-Ranked Recruit
Tucson, AZ – March 10, 2026 – Caleb Holt, the No. 4 prospect in the 2026 SC Next 100, has committed to play basketball at the University of Arizona, marking the highest-ranked recruit for head coach Tommy Lloyd since he took the helm in Tucson. The announcement came Tuesday on ESPN’s “First Take.”
Holt’s Decision and Connection with Coach Lloyd
The 6-foot-5 guard from Prolific Prep (Florida) chose Arizona after considering offers from Houston, Kentucky, Alabama, Providence, and Arkansas. A key factor in Holt’s decision was his existing relationship with Coach Lloyd, developed during their time together with the USA Basketball U19 team last summer.
“He took me under his wing. He saw my potential,” Holt told ESPN. “He position me in games and believed in me and instilled a lot of confidence in me. Under pressure in the quarterfinals against Canada, the game was close and he did not blink at all; he stayed the same throughout the game. That showed me a lot about him.”
Holt described Lloyd as “straightforward,” someone who “keeps things real” and “does not sugarcoat anything.” He similarly praised Lloyd’s balance between seriousness on the court and a relaxed demeanor off the court, noting, “He is a blast and loves to have a good time off the court.”
Scouting Report and Playing Style
CBS Sports’ Adam Finkelstein describes Holt as a “natural wing who has developed his game into becoming a true guard.” Finkelstein highlights Holt’s ability as a “downhill attacker who plays through contact, has decisive burst on his way to the rim, and is an efficient finisher with both hands.” Whereas shooting is identified as an area for continued development, Finkelstein notes Holt’s growth in this area.
Holt himself stated, “Offensively, I’m going to be a knockdown shooter, coming off screens and knock it down.”
Holt is also praised for his defensive potential, with Finkelstein noting his ability to “utilize his physical tools to make plays, guard multiple positions, and then rise up for rebounds.”
Previous Accomplishments and Team Fit
Holt brings a decorated resume to Arizona, including two state championships in Alabama, a championship with Game Elite in the Adidas 3SSB circuit, and three gold medals with USA Basketball, two of which were earned on teams coached by Lloyd. He compares his game to that of Anthony Edwards.
Holt joins four-star wing Cameron Holmes as the second commitment in Arizona’s 2026 recruiting class.
