California’s First 3D-Printed Housing Community Rises in Yuba County
A Sacramento-based developer is pioneering a new approach to address California’s housing shortage, utilizing 3D printing technology to construct fire-resistant, low-waste homes. The project, located in Yuba County, marks the first micro-community of 3D-printed homes in the state.
The 4Dify Project
4Dify, owned by Nan Lin, is building a five-home community in West Linda, Yuba County, using technology acquired from New York-based SQ4D. The process involves an industrial-scale 3D printer that layers concrete to form the walls of the homes.
Faster Construction Times
The first home in the community was completed in just 24 days, a significantly faster timeframe compared to traditional construction methods in California. 4Dify anticipates future builds will grab as little as 10 days as the team gains experience and refines the process.
Benefits of 3D-Printed Homes
Beyond speed, 3D-printed construction offers several potential advantages:

Scalability and Expansion
Nan Lin, founder of 4Dify, expressed a desire to scale the technology and expand to other areas of California, including Sacramento, the Bay Area, and Southern California. The company plans to maintain a presence in Yuba County and continue building 3D-printed communities.
First Home on the Market
The first home in the Yuba County community is already for sale, listed at $375,000. Each home in the project is expected to be priced below the local market rate due to the cost savings achieved through 3D printing.
The SQ4D ARCS Printer
The technology behind 4Dify’s construction is the “ARCS” printer developed by SQ4D, designed to fabricate full-size concrete structures with minimal manual labor.
