California Fitness & Yoga has suspended towel, VIP beverage, and Centuryon counter services nationwide across its gym network from September 29 through October 19, citing operational challenges.
National Service Suspensions and Member Fallout
The temporary cutbacks affect all branches across Vietnam starting September 29, requiring members to bring their own towels and water bottles for training sessions. The abrupt change caught many patrons off guard, particularly high-tier subscribers who pay extra specifically for amenities like pool access, VIP lounges, and bottled water. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, a member at a Ho Chi Minh City branch who upgraded to a Centuryon VIP package in 2025, criticized the move as an unfair compromise of contract terms. Lan noted that receiving the notification late at night on September 28 left customers with zero time to adjust or seek alternatives.
Beyond missing amenities, operational friction has hit class schedules. Members reported arriving for morning yoga sessions only to find no instructors present to teach the classes. Meanwhile, Tuổi Trẻ reached out to company representatives for comment regarding the service suspensions and member rights protections, but has not received a response.
Branch Closures and Remaining Footprint
The service cutbacks follow a wave of brick-and-mortar shutdowns across major urban centers. California Fitness & Yoga previously shuttered four establishments: the AMU club in Tan Son Nhi ward and the GVC club in Go Vap district within Ho Chi Minh City, alongside the PCH club in Cau Giay district and the CPT club in Cua Nam ward in Hanoi.
Following these closures, the network operates 26 gym locations nationwide. The footprint includes approximately 14 clubs in Ho Chi Minh City, 9 in Hanoi, and single facilities in Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, and Dong Nai provinces. Two specific centers located at SC VivoCity and Centuryon Saigon also announced temporary suspensions of regular activities, with staff directing members to transfer to alternative branches within the network.
Despite downsizing and suspending amenities, job recruitment data indicates the company continues active hiring in Ho Chi Minh City. Open positions focus on daily club operations, including personal trainers, yoga instructors, and sales staff, with personal trainer roles listing reference salaries between 25 million and 40 million Vietnamese dong per month.
