Calvin Harrison Seeks All-Rounder Status with Northamptonshire Move

Calvin Harrison, the South African-born English cricketer, is aiming to solidify his position as a genuine all-rounder after joining Northamptonshire following a stint with county champions Nottinghamshire. The 27-year-old demonstrated his capabilities during a loan spell with Northants last summer, excelling with both bat, and ball.

Impressive Loan Spell with Northamptonshire

Harrison played 10 Championship games for Northamptonshire during his loan spell in 2025, emerging as their leading wicket-taker with 36 wickets at an average of 29.61. He also showcased his batting prowess, scoring 456 runs, including a maiden first-class century of 122 against Kent.

Focus on All-Round Development

“That’s part of my game [batting] that I really wish to push,” Harrison told BBC Radio Northampton. “I was more of a batsman as a junior and then roles reversed and became more of a leggie who bats. Now I want to cement myself and make more of a case as a full-on all-rounder. It’s a good opportunity and I’m looking forward to it.”

Departure from Nottinghamshire and Future Ambitions

Harrison acknowledged that leaving Trent Bridge, where he had played since 2021, was a tough decision. However, he is now focused on contributing to a promotion-winning team and performing well in white-ball competitions. “I’m looking forward to the new adventure now. We’ve set ourselves up really well to push for promotion and the guys got through to [T20 Blast] Finals Day [last season] and we want to repeat that,” he said. “Ultimately I want to be playing all formats – and having a substantial role.”

England Lions Recognition

Harrison recently represented England Lions in Abu Dhabi in February, taking 3-37 in a 50-over game against Pakistan Shaheens. He hopes this performance will open doors for further international opportunities. “It was a good trip – it was unfortunate that it got cut short [by missile strikes across the Middle East]. When you go there you want to make a bit of a statement and I just enjoyed it. You go into an environment like that and you want to show what you can do,” he added.
