Wyoming Restaurant Inspections: Ensuring Food Safety

GILLETTE, Wyo. – The Consumer Health Services Division of the Wyoming Department of Agriculture inspects retail food establishments across Wyoming (in areas without local health departments) to protect the health of residents.

Campbell County establishments receive at least one inspection annually from the WDA. These routine inspection reports are public and available on the WDA’s website. Note that the website only includes routine inspections, not follow-up or other types of inspections.

The WDA categorizes violations as either non-critical (non-food-related) or critical (perhaps causing foodborne illness).

The WDA emphasizes that its primary goal is education. Inspections aim to help businesses understand and correct unsafe practices.

A violation means a business is out of compliance, but the severity of violations varies. Being out of compliance doesn’t automatically mean a business is unsafe.

Inspections represent a single point in time. Often,violations are corrected before the inspector departs. Businesses typically have 10 to 45 days to address violations, depending on their severity.
