Canada’s Homan Secures Olympic Semifinal Berth with Victory Over South Korea
CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy, Feb 19 – Rachel Homan’s Canadian team defeated South Korea 10-7 on Thursday, securing their spot in the semi-finals of the women’s curling competition at the Milano Cortina Winter Games. This marks Homan’s first Olympic semi-final appearance in her career.
Canada’s Road to the Semifinals
Both Canada and South Korea entered the match with identical 5-3 records, needing a win to guarantee a place in the final four. Canada’s victory propelled them to a 6-3 record fueled by a five-game winning streak after a challenging start to the round-robin play where they initially held a 1-3 record.
The Canadian rink, consisting of Homan, Emma Miskew, Sarah Wilkes, and Tracy Fleury, scored four points in the sixth end and Homan executed a hit in the tenth end to seal the win.
United States Also Advances
Tabitha Peterson’s United States team also clinched a semi-final berth with a 7-6 win over Switzerland, who had already qualified. The U.S. Victory came in an extra end, with Peterson making a crucial draw to secure the win.

The final session of women’s round-robin games, along with the men’s semi-finals, experienced a 30-minute delay due to heavy snowfall in Cortina d’Ampezzo, which caused travel disruptions.
