Canon EOS R8 Mark II Release Date Set for October 2026

Amazon has updated its listing for the Canon EOS R8 Mark II to show a firm release date of October 20, 2026, with Prime delivery scheduled for Wednesday, October 21. The full-frame camera remains priced at $1,899 on Amazon, with Amazon.com listed as both the seller and shipper, according to an update spotted on the retail platform.

Until this retail update, Canon had only described the camera’s availability as late October. Canon’s official online store currently shows an estimated October 20 arrival, aligning closely with the new delivery schedule provided by Amazon.

Hardware Upgrades in the New Full-Frame Body

The EOS R8 Mark II introduces 5-axis in-body image stabilization, rated for up to 7.5 stops of coordinated correction at the center when paired with compatible lenses. Weighing approximately 546 grams with the battery and card inserted, Canon positions the body as its lightest EOS camera equipped with in-body image stabilization.

Canon advertises continuous shooting speeds of up to 40 frames per second using the electronic shutter. The camera also includes pre-continuous capture capability to record up to 20 frames before the shutter button is fully pressed down. The internal buffer supports up to 73 RAW images or 190 Large/Fine JPEG images at 40 FPS before slowing down.

The electronic first-curtain shutter tops out at 6 frames per second, meaning faster burst rates rely entirely on the electronic shutter rather than a conventional full mechanical shutter. The imaging sensor retains a resolution of approximately 24.2 megapixels, matching the resolution of the original EOS R8.

Video Recording and System Performance

For video shooters, the camera records uncropped 4K video at up to 60p using 6K oversampling, alongside Full HD recording at up to 180p. Canon includes support for 10-bit recording formats such as XF-HEVC S, with handheld video capture aided by the new in-body image stabilization system.

Hardware compromises include a single UHS-II SD card slot and the continued use of the smaller LP-E17 battery. Canon rates the battery for approximately 220 shots through the electronic viewfinder in power-saving mode, or 340 shots using the rear LCD screen.

Potential buyers weighing an upgrade from the original EOS R8 face a decision where resolution remains identical, making upgrades primarily dependent on the addition of image stabilization, an improved autofocus tracking system, and a larger high-speed buffer.

Delivery Timelines and Purchasing Details

What remains unknown is whether retail stock quantities will meet initial consumer demand upon release on October 20, or if additional shipping delays will affect regional availability outside of Prime delivery zones.
