Carrot Top Breaks Silence After Suicide Attempt and Hospitalization – The Hollywood Reporter

Carrot Top Returns to Instagram After Suicide Attempt, Announces Las Vegas Show

Comedian Scott “Carrot Top” Thompson returned to Instagram on October 17, sharing a heartfelt message to fans following his September 18 hospitalization after a suicide attempt. The 61-year-old performer, whose real name is Scott Thompson, expressed gratitude for the “outpouring of love, support, prayers, and well wishes” he received, stating, “Every message, text, and kind thought has meant more to me than you know.” He confirmed plans to return to the stage at the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on October 19.

Public Appearances Follow Hospitalization for Suicide Attempt

Thompson’s representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed to USA TODAY on September 26 that the comedian was “home with his family and doing well” after more than a week in the hospital, according to usmagazine.com. His release followed a hospitalization linked to a suicide attempt, though details about the incident remain limited. Earlier in October, Thompson was seen publicly with his mother at a Las Vegas church on October 4 and October 11, though he had not addressed his health or the circumstances of his hospitalization prior to his Instagram post.

Context of the Crisis and Legal Allegations

A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department report obtained by Us revealed that Thompson learned of sexual misconduct allegations against him shortly before his September 18 hospitalization. The report, dated September 25, stated that Thompson’s tour manager, Daniel O’Leary, was at the scene and noted that a news article about a lawsuit had broken. Thompson subsequently hung up before texting O’Leary one word — “done.” TMZ also reported that Thompson’s team alleged a man named Brian Evans threatened to distribute sexually explicit content featuring the comedian unless he paid $500,000.

Receives Fan Support in Comedy Career

Despite his low public profile outside of performances, Thompson has maintained a decades‑long comedy career, including a residency at the Luxor Hotel & Casino since 2005. I love trying new jokes every night,” he told the Whiskey Ginger podcast in 2023, as noted by eonline.com. The post drew support from celebrities like Jay Mohr, who wrote “LOVE LOVE LOVE,” and Emmy winner Hannah Einbinder, who wrote “Love you Scott.”

Focuses on Health for Upcoming Performance

Thompson’s return to the stage on October 19 is scheduled as part of his residency at Luxor Hotel & Casino. The Luxor Hotel and Casino’s website lists nearly daily shows for the rest of the year, according to eonline.com. His rep has requested privacy, stating, “His focus is on his health and recovery, and we ask that his privacy be respected at this time,” as reported by TMZ.
