Cartier Sapphire Ring Leads Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels Sale at $6.4 Million
A 21.05-carat Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring created by Cartier will lead Christie’s upcoming Magnificent Jewels auction in Hong Kong, with pre-sale estimates reaching up to $6.4 million. The high-profile piece anchors a collection of more than 120 items slated for the auction block on November 24 during Hong Kong Luxury Week, according to the auction house.
The headline-grabbing Cartier ring joins a slate of high-value coloured diamonds and rare gemstones. Among them is the Pink Petal, a pear-shaped, 8.41-carat fancy-vivid-purple-pink diamond ring expected to fetch up to $12 million. A Cartier brooch featuring a 10.10-carat Burmese ruby and diamonds carries a high estimate of $7.7 million.
November Catalogue Features Rare Jadeite and Sapphires
The November catalogue features a diverse array of colored stones, jadeite, and signed historical pieces. A necklace featuring 33 jadeite beads and a diamond clasp holds an estimate between $2.5 million and $3.8 million. A pendant comprising a 100.16-carat Burmese royal blue sapphire with diamond accent stones is estimated at $2.3 million to $3.6 million, while a rare jadeite bangle is valued between $1.2 million and $1.9 million.
Additional highlights include a ring centered on a 5.03-carat pigeon’s blood Burmese ruby in a diamond surround, estimated at $1.1 million to $1.5 million, and a matching set featuring jadeite center stones and diamonds valued between $830,000 and $1.5 million. Signed vintage items feature prominently in the catalogue, including a 1980s Van Cleef & Arpels mystery-set necklace with a floral motif of rubies, emeralds, and diamonds carrying an estimate of $710,000 to $1.1 million.
Auction Offers Jewelry Owned by Duchess of Windsor
The auction also incorporates historical provenance, offering a pair of natural pearl and diamond earrings designed by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1957 for the Duchess of Windsor. The earrings, later owned by US fashion designer Calvin Klein, are estimated at $260,000 to $380,000. Other historical pieces include a Cartier Baby Panthère brooch valued at $450,000 to $700,000, an 18.20-carat Colombian emerald ring estimated at $500,000 to $830,000, and a Van Cleef & Arpels ruby and diamond mystery-set floral brooch estimated at $450,000 to $700,000.
Spring sales managed by the auction house in Hong Kong featured similarly high-value centrepieces, including a 3.44-carat fancy-vivid-purplish-pink diamond known as the Bubble Gum Pink, which carried a pre-sale estimate of $6 million to $8 million ahead of a May 28 auction reported by Rapaport. Vickie Sek, chairman of Christie’s jewelry for Asia, noted that the spring offerings of fancy-vivid-blue and pink diamonds alongside major emeralds were bound to draw strong collector interest worldwide.
