Italian Man Sentenced for Robbing Medical Guard in Casatenovo

A 35-year-old man from Missaglia, Italy, has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison for robbing a medical guard in Casatenovo in May 2025. The sentence was handed down by Judge Salvatore Catalano of the Lecco court on February 25, 2026.

Details of the Robbery

On May 4, 2025, the man entered the medical guard’s office in Casatenovo and forcibly took two medical prescriptions and a stamp from the doctor on duty. During the incident, he also physically assaulted the doctor, striking her with an elbow. The victim was a female doctor.

Arrest and Investigation

Following the robbery, the man evaded authorities for several weeks before being arrested by the Carabinieri in early July 2025. He was initially held in the San Vittore prison in Milan. The Lecco Prosecutor’s Office pursued charges of improper robbery.

Legal Proceedings and Defense

The defendant’s lawyer, Francesca Cascione, requested an abbreviated trial, contingent upon a psychiatric evaluation to determine his mental state at the time of the offense. Judge Catalano approved the request, and a specialist assessed the man’s pre-existing neurological condition.

Court Ruling

The prosecution argued that the man’s neurological condition did not impair his ability to understand and intend his actions. However, the defense presented a differing opinion. Judge Catalano sentenced the man to three years and four months in prison, a sentence exceeding the prosecutor’s initial request of three years and a 1,800 euro fine.

Background of the Defendant

The man is known to law enforcement and has a history of substance dependence. He also suffers from neurological issues.
