CBP Detains Man in El Paso for Cockfighting Equipment Import

EL PASO, Texas – A 52-year-old Kansas man was arrested on February 4th at the El Paso border crossing after federal authorities discovered illegal cockfighting equipment during a vehicle inspection. Heriberto Muñoz Valenzuela is facing charges related to the possession and transportation of items used in the illicit practice of cockfighting.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials reported that Valenzuela was referred for secondary screening on paisano Drive. During a thorough inspection, agents identified accessories specifically designed for cockfighting, a practice outlawed in the United States due to its inherent animal cruelty.

The El Paso Police Department’s Animal Cruelty unit assisted in the investigation,confirming that the equipment originated in Mexico and was intended for distribution within the U.S.This collaborative effort highlights the commitment of both federal and local agencies to combat illegal animal fighting activities.

Valenzuela was taken into custody and is currently being held on a $5,000 bail. The investigation is ongoing, and further details may emerge as the case progresses. The charges against Valenzuela reflect the serious legal consequences associated with participating in or supporting cockfighting operations.
