CCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship Thrills Niverville, Manitoba

Niverville, Manitoba, hosted the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship from March 11-14, 2026, bringing together eight of Canada’s top collegiate women’s volleyball teams. Local Teams Compete for National Title

The Assiniboine Cougars from Brandon and the host team, Providence Pilots, were highlighted as local favorites in the competition. The championship week held special significance for players like Tyra Peters of the Providence Pilots, as it marked the end of their collegiate careers, and graduation.

Pilots Players Reflect on Championship Experience

Tyra Peters, a left-side player for the Pilots, expressed her appreciation for the friendships and relationships forged throughout her time with the team. She also spoke about her passion for growing the sport among women, inspired by her older brothers. Teammate Amanda Bergen, a centre for the Pilots, highlighted the strong connection she shares with Peters, built over years of playing together since the age of 12. Bergen noted how this familiarity fosters trust and seamless teamwork on the court.

Growing Popularity of Women’s Volleyball

Both Peters and Bergen observed the increasing popularity of women’s sports in recent years. Bergen, who grew up watching primarily men’s sports, expressed her enjoyment in witnessing the enthusiasm of young fans cheering on the women’s volleyball teams.

Community Support and Event Success

Head coach Kyle Guenther noted that he is seeing women’s sports gain more attention internationally after 16 years with the Providence program. He also emphasized the incredible support from the Niverville community, stating that the team “punched above their weight class” in the competition. Warren Britton, director of recreation and wellness for Niverville Community Resource and Recreation Centre, described the enthusiastic atmosphere created by fans, including drumming and cheering, as a delightful surprise.

Tournament Details and Schedule

The CCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship took place at the Niverville Community Resource & Recreation Centre from March 11-14, 2026. Showpass provided tournament passes, with prices ranging from $30.00 to $60.00 CAD. The schedule included quarterfinal matches on March 11, bronze and championship semifinals on March 12, placement and bronze semifinal games on March 13, and the bronze and gold medal finals on March 14. Niverville Recreation & Wellness also hosted the CCAA Men’s Volleyball Nationals from March 5-8, 2025.

Participating Teams

Teams competing in the 2026 CCAA National Women’s Volleyball Championship included representatives from Nanaimo, BC, Lloydminster, AB, Longueuil, QC, Toronto, ON, Camrose, AB, Sackville, NB, Brandon, MB, and Providence University College in Otterburne, MB.
