Center Stage Theatre in Idaho Falls is adding the 1984 film adaptation Footloose to its 2027 summer lineup, according to a news release reported by EastIdahoNews.com. The production will run on select dates from July 16 through August 28, 2027, expanding a season that was initially announced during a black-tie event in July.
Production Details and Creative Team
Chandler Dye, the theater’s head of marketing, stated in the news release that the organization is thrilled to bring the show to eastern Idaho. Dye noted that the musical brings back nostalgia while maintaining a relevant story filled with energetic dancing and recognizable music.
Director and choreographer Danny Hansen is returning to lead the production. Dye stated in the coverage that Hansen brings unique energy, heart, and personality to his work, making the show a strong fit for his talents.
The stage version is adapted from the original 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer. The plot follows teenager Ren McCormack as he moves from Chicago to a conservative town where rock music and dancing are prohibited, challenging local rules alongside themes of friendship and family.
Music and Season Lineup Context
The score features several hits from the original film, including the title track by Kenny Loggins—which spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned an Academy Award nomination—alongside Deniece Williams’ chart-topper “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Almost Paradise,” and “I’m Free (Heaven Helps the Man).”
Footloose joins a 2027 Center Stage Theatre schedule that includes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Les Miserables, Come From Away, and a musical adaptation of A Christmas Story. Season passes are currently available through the theater.
