Cerro Coso Community College Receives $1.1 Million to Bolster Cybersecurity Program

Cerro Coso Community College has been awarded $1.1 million in federal funding to expand and strengthen its cybersecurity programming, reinforcing its role in regional workforce development and national security. The funding, secured through the efforts of Congressman Vince Fong, will enhance curriculum, upgrade instructional resources and increase hands-on training opportunities.

Investing in Cybersecurity Workforce Development

The investment will enable Cerro Coso to better prepare students for high-demand, high-wage careers in cybersecurity. The college is strategically positioned to serve as a key pipeline for cybersecurity professionals, particularly given its proximity to the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and other regional defense and public-sector partners.

Funding Breakdown and Program Enhancements

The $1.1 million will be allocated to:

Future Expansion: Cybersecurity Baccalaureate Degree

Cerro Coso is likewise pursuing approval for a Cybersecurity Baccalaureate degree through the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. If approved, this program will provide students with a pathway from associate to bachelor’s-level cybersecurity training, further expanding advanced workforce opportunities in the region.
