CETYS Universidad celebrated its 65th anniversary on October 2, 2026, in San Diego, California, by hosting its second Town Hall 2026 under the theme “65 Years of Binational Impact”. The event brought together academic representatives, authorities, strategic allies, and the binational community at UC San Diego Park & Market to discuss the role of higher education in the Cali-Baja region.
The gathering highlighted the institution’s longstanding relationships across both sides of the border and featured civic recognitions from local and state government entities in California. Dr. Fernando León García, Rector of CETYS Universidad System, led the discussions alongside regional officials.

Dr. León García Discusses Cali-Baja Region Dynamics
Dr. León García delivered special thanks to United States Consul General in Tijuana Lance Hegerle and Baja California business promoter Gastón Luken Aguilar. The Rector also participated in a conversatorio alongside Alicia G. Kerber-Palma, Consul General of Mexico in San Diego, and California State Assemblymember David Álvarez, focusing on the dynamics of the Cali-Baja region and the necessity for broader institutional support.
Official Recognitions in California
During the event, CETYS Universidad received multiple civic honors recognizing its cross-border trajectory. Benjamin Moore, Director of Global Affairs for the San Diego mayor’s office, presented a proclamation from Mayor Todd Gloria declaring October 1, 2026, as “CETYS Day” in the City of San Diego.
Assemblymember David Álvarez delivered a California State Resolution declaring September 20, 2026, as “CETYS Day.” These recognitions joined a previous proclamation issued on September 15 by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors designating CETYS Day within their jurisdiction.
Future Outlook
Reflecting on the milestone, Dr. León García emphasized that the second annual Town Hall served both to commemorate historical achievements and to outline future initiatives in California and the United States.
