Epic Games has released an exciting new trailer. The animation isn’t just a contender for the best Fortnite trailer of all time – it might actually be one of the best gaming trailers ever.
The trailer that iconic fantasy VMA costume presented to pop greatness, only takes a minute. Despite its brevity, the Chappell Roan trailer switches between three different animation styles: stop-motion animation, an embroidered tapestry look, and elegant anime graphics. All of these aesthetics merge into a whole and immerse the viewer in the Fortnite Festival Season.
It would be easy to miss the reference to Fortnite in the first half. Chappell kills some otherworldly creatures that don’t appear in the battle royale. She then dispatches a menacing donkey-like monster that is obviously reminiscent of the purple piñata, but even this reference is subtle.
Chappell Roan lands on the Fortnite island
Eventually, Chappell breaks through this reality and ends up on the Fortnite island, where she pumps up the crowd as if she’s actually leading everyone into the Pink Pony Club. When the scene changes to a concert full of cheering fans, it almost feels like a spell has been broken.
When Chappell debuted this look in 2024, fans joked that the singer looked like she belonged in Dark Souls – or at least a video game. This trailer and Chappell’s revealing outfit at the 2026 Grammys confirm these comparisons.
Unfortunately, Epic Games has not yet released any details about the artists responsible for the excellent animation.
