Cardano Targets 1,000 Transactions Per Second With Leios Upgrade
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has highlighted the planned Leios upgrade as a crucial milestone for the technical completion of the blockchain. The planned architectural overhaul aims to push the network’s transaction throughput far beyond its current operational limits, which hover between 5 and 10 transactions per second on the mainnet.
Under the development roadmap, the Leios update targets an initial capacity of roughly 100 transactions per second. Long-term testing benchmarks project speeds exceeding 1,000 transactions per second once the implementation matures. The network will also incorporate the Midnight project, a privacy-focused partner chain designed to handle regulatory compliance frameworks, though developers have not yet established a concrete launch schedule.
Dijkstra Hard Fork Schedule and Testnet Benchmarks
Input Output engineering teams have scheduled the activation of Linear Leios for late 2026 as part of the initial phase of the Dijkstra hard fork. Actual deployment remains contingent on multiple operational gates, including on-chain governance votes, stakeholder participation, and the performance of upcoming test environments. Recent trials inside the Musashi Dojo testnet demonstrated a phase-one data throughput of 26.8 kilobytes per second, reaching roughly six times the capacity limit of the existing Ouroboros Praos consensus protocol. Isolated test environments achieved peak spikes approaching 1,000 transactions per second during evaluations last month.

Network Activity Surge Meets Pressured Market Sentiment
Network engagement climbed sharply ahead of the technical announcements, with the blockchain processing 1,780,896 transactions during a five-day window ending October 11. That transaction volume represents a 13.65 percent increase over the previous network peak established in November 2021. User activity pushed transaction fee collections to 337,720 ADA during the active period. Despite the rising network utilization, token valuations remain constrained by broader market weakness. ADA trades at 0,2154 USD, marking a 1.8 percent daily decline while holding approximately 1.6 percent above its 200-day moving average of 0,2121 USD.
