Blood Assurance Faces Critical Shortage, Incentivizes Donations with Gift Cards

Blood Assurance, a key blood supplier for hospitals across Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and Kentucky, is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage. The organization reports having only a one-day supply of several critical blood types, prompting an urgent call for donations from eligible community members.

Urgent Need for Donations

The shortage poses a significant risk to patient care, as even a single accident, emergency surgery, or trauma event can rapidly deplete the available blood supply. Garry Allison, Senior Vice President of Operations for Blood Assurance, emphasized the precarious situation, stating, “Right now, we are operating at levels that leave very little margin. We need donors to step up as soon as possible.”

Incentives for Donors

To encourage donations and bolster the dwindling supply, Blood Assurance is offering incentives to those who donate through February 28th. All donors will receive a $25 eGift Card. Donors will be entered into a drawing to win one of seven $100 eGift Cards, with one winner selected from each service area.

Donation Eligibility and Preparation

Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in solid health. Blood Assurance recommends that donors eat a hearty meal and stay well-hydrated before donating.

Individuals interested in donating can schedule an appointment online at bloodassurance.org, by calling 1-800-962-0628, or by texting BAGIVE to 999777 (message and data rates may apply). Donations can be made at donor centers or blood drives.
