Chiara Mazzell Wins Gold in Women’s Super-G at Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympics

Chiara Mazzell of Italy secured the gold medal in the vision impaired women’s super-G at the Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games. The almost thirty-year-old athlete, representing Fiamme Gialle, finished with a time of 1:14.84 alongside her guide, Nicola Cotti Cottini. This victory follows her silver medal in the downhill event.

Veronika Aigner of Austria claimed the silver medal, while Alexandra Rexova of Slovakia took home the bronze. Martina Vozza, another Italian competitor, finished fourth.

Mazzell’s Journey to Gold

Chiara Mazzell’s success marks the second gold medal for the Italian expedition at the Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympics. Giacomo Bertagnolli had previously won a silver medal in the men’s super-G vision impaired event with guide Andrea Ravelli, missing gold by just 0.16 seconds to Aigner.

Mazzell’s path to Paralympic glory has been marked by dedication and resilience. She was diagnosed with glaucoma at the age of eighteen, a condition that progressively impaired her vision. Despite this challenge, she has achieved significant success in her skiing career, including five medals at the World Championships, three of which were gold, earned at the 2023 edition in Espot. She has reached the World Cup podium 18 times, securing eight first-place finishes and two victories in Cortina.

“This Gold Medal Weighs Much More”

Following her win, Mazzell expressed her joy and relief, stating, “This gold medal weighs much more than the silver one in downhill. I’m particularly happy with how it went, as well as this morning during reconnaissance I started having a really bad headache and I almost didn’t want to leave because I couldn’t retain my balance. I am also super satisfied with how I handled this inconvenience.”

Beyond her athletic achievements, Mazzell is known for her diverse interests, including a passion for the French horn, painting, and writing.
