Boden’s Return: A Complex Investigation
Walker’s return comes as Boden, now Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Fire Department, is tasked by Commissioner Grissom with analyzing a devastating house fire where a firefighter was lost. According to Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman, the episode will be a “thrill ride unlike any we’ve done before,” utilizing flashbacks and multiple perspectives to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Newman stated, “Told with flashbacks and unique POVs, Chief Boden leads our team on a search to discover the how, who, and why of a fierce firefight that ended in disaster.”

Boden’s departure as Firehouse 51’s chief at the conclude of Season 12 marked a significant shift for the series.
