Enforcement officers in Rotterdam had to blink twice on Saturday night when they were called to a parking garage under a casino. In a parked car they found two children, aged 13 and 15, who had been sitting in the back there for hours, while their parents had a pleasant evening. “It wasn’t a problem last time either.”
In a video posted by enforcers on Instagram, you can see how the parents of the children are addressed. “We are receiving reports of your car. That there have been people in the back of the car since 9:30 PM tonight. It is now 1:45 AM. A man just came by and parked here at 9:30 PM and he saw your car with people in it,” says one of the enforcers.
The woman denies that they have been parked since 9:30 p.m. She says that she went to eat and shop, and that her husband went to the cinema, among other things. She doesn’t seem to understand why the enforcers take it so seriously that they left their two children in the car. After all, she says it wasn’t a problem last time.
Warning
“If the children had not called, what time would you have returned?” an officer asks the parents. The parents cannot give a clear answer to this.
Ultimately they receive a serious warning. “If we see this again, that the children are here in the car, they will go to the police station and I will hand them over to youth care. Then you can explain to the judge why you leave your children alone in a car in a big city,” said the officer.
