Chilean Parliamentarian Accused of Using Position to Expedite Mother’s Property Registration

Camila Flores Oporto, a National Renovation (RN) representative for District 6 of Valparaíso, Chile, is facing accusations of misusing her parliamentary powers to benefit her mother, Verónica Esmelita Oporto González. A journalistic report alleges that Flores sent letters to local authorities in April and August 2025, attempting to accelerate a real estate procedure for a rural property owned by her mother in the Los Ríos Region.

Evidence of Intervention

Public documents from the National Congress show that Flores issued an inspection letter on August 28, 2025, addressed to the Regional Ministerial Secretary of National Assets of Los Ríos, Jorge Enrique Pacheco Rosas. In this letter, she requested information regarding the status of file No. 177,278, which was entered on April 14, 2023, at the Real Estate Registrar of the region. The letter specifically asked for clarification on pending procedures for the registration of the rural property.

The inquiry highlighted delays related to authorization from the National Directorate of State Borders and Limits (DIFROL), due to the property’s potential location on a border, and a statement from the Municipal Works Directorate (DOM) of Futrono concerning Law No. 20,234.

Prior Instances and Potential Misuse of Power

This is not the first instance of Flores intervening in the matter. A similar document was sent in April 2025, also aimed at streamlining the process. Given that Flores’ constituency is in Valparaíso, and not Los Ríos, her intervention could be considered a misuse of her parliamentary powers for personal gain.
