China Calls for Dialogue amidst US Trade Tensions at World economic Forum

Davos, Switzerland – Amidst ongoing trade disputes with the United States, China has advocated for increased communication and collaboration on the global stage. Vice Premier He Lifeng, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, acknowledged the fluctuations in Sino-American economic and trade relations over the past year and emphasized the need for resolution through consultation rather than confrontation.

He Lifeng positioned China as a collaborative trading partner for all nations, explicitly stating the country does not view itself as a rival. However, he also cautioned that the multilateral trading system is currently facing notable challenges. He highlighted concerns over unilateral actions and trade agreements that, in China’s view, violate established world Trade Association (WTO) rules. While he refrained from directly naming specific countries, the remarks are widely understood to be directed at both the United States and the European Union.

China has consistently voiced criticism of measures such as EU sanctions and US tariffs, characterizing them as unilateral and detrimental to the global trade framework. He Lifeng,a close advisor to president Xi Jinping, recently led the Chinese delegation during customs negotiations with the United States, underscoring China’s commitment to addressing trade concerns directly.

The call for dialogue comes at a critical juncture in US-China relations,as both nations navigate complex economic and geopolitical challenges. The emphasis on multilateralism and adherence to WTO rules signals China’s desire for a stable and predictable international trading environment.
