BYD Dolphin Surf: A Blast at a Ridiculously Low Price
Our last experience with BYD wasn’t good, and frankly, we’d rather not revisit it. But we recently tested their new economy city car, and it was surprisingly fun – all at an incredibly low price.
BYD is rapidly gaining ground in europe and globally, challenging Elon Musk and Tesla’s position as the leading EV manufacturer. They’ve already surpassed Tesla in some markets.
We’ve consistently maintained that the Chinese automotive industry, with BYD as a key player, is expanding its influence worldwide. It’s becoming a vital part of the automotive landscape, offering refined and affordable vehicles.
European automakers are understandably concerned by this growing competition. Numerous new Chinese manufacturers are launching in Europe, and many are quickly gaining popularity with buyers.
BYD has already achieved remarkable success this year, ranking 14th in car sales with 2,628 registrations as of the end of November – a 79.88% increase year-over-year. No European, Japanese, or Korean manufacturer can match that growth rate.
With brands like MG, XPENG, and Leapmotor also experiencing rapid sales growth, and Tesla facing declining numbers, the Chinese automotive industry’s momentum is building. It’s poised to dominate certain segments soon.
The quality of chinese vehicles is improving rapidly while maintaining competitive pricing. This ascent is happening quickly and sustainably.
At this rate, Chinese automakers are well-positioned to capture a larger share of the European market. BYD, with established models like the Seal, Seal-U, Sealion 7, and the original Dolphin, has already made a significant impact.
Now, with the incredibly affordable Dolphin Surf – the origin of BYD’s quirky model names remains a mystery – they’re set to make an even bigger splash.
