Christy Moore Invites Beoga to Vicar Street for Solidarity Show
Christy Moore has announced a special concert at Dublin’s Vicar Street on Monday 7 December, inviting Irish folk group Beoga to join him as special guests in a show of solidarity, following their decision to withdraw from Ed Sheeran’s North American tour last month after a controversy in September.
Promoters announced the December date to support the band following their departure from Sheeran’s Loop tour, in support of US rapper Macklemore. Macklemore was removed from the tour line-up following comments he made about Gaza during a concert in New Jersey. Beoga, who collaborated with Sheeran for more than a decade, withdrew because they could not continue performing at venues where artists speaking out in support of Palestine were silenced.
Beoga Remains Friends with Ed Sheeran After Split
Following their departure from the Sheeran tour, Beoga singer and fiddle player Niamh Dunne told RTÉ Radio 1 that the group remained friends with the headliner despite the abrupt split. Dunne emphasized the professional gravity of their choice, stating that they are working musicians who made a principled decision where financial and professional stakes are very real.
Ed Sheeran subsequently stated that Macklemore’s removal was a decision taken by promoters rather than himself. The December concert stands as a direct contrast to Beoga’s cancelled tour dates, placing the traditional group back on a prominent Dublin stage alongside Moore, an artist long associated with political and social causes.
Tickets Go on Sale for December and November Shows
Tickets for the newly announced 7 December standing show go on sale on Wednesday 28 October at 9am through Ticketmaster.ie. This late-year appearance supplements Moore’s autumn schedule at the venue.
