Chuck Norris, the martial arts grandmaster and action star best known for his role in “Walker, Texas Ranger,” has died at the age of 86. His death occurred on Thursday, March 20, 2026, according to reports from the Associated Press and other news outlets.

From Martial Arts Champion to Screen Icon

Norris rose to prominence as a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate champion before transitioning to a successful acting career. He founded his own Korean-based American hard style of karate, Chun Kuk Do, and the United Fighting Arts Federation, which has awarded over 3,300 black belts worldwide.

Early Life and Military Service

Born Carlos Ray Norris in Ryan, Oklahoma, on March 10, 1940, Norris moved to Torrance, California, with his family at age 12. He joined the U.S. Air Force after high school in 1958. It was during his deployment to Korea that he began his training in martial arts, including judo and Tang Soo Do.

Acting Career and “Walker, Texas Ranger”

Norris made his film debut in 1968 with an uncredited role in “The Wrecking Crew.” He later shared the screen with Bruce Lee in “Return of the Dragon” (1972). He starred in numerous action films, including “Missing in Action” and “The Delta Force.” However, he achieved widespread fame with his role as Cordell Walker in the television series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” which ran for nine seasons. In 2010, he was named an honorary Texas Ranger by then-Governor Rick Perry.

In the mid-2000s, Norris became a cultural icon thanks to the viral internet phenomenon known as “Chuck Norris Facts.” These hyperbolic and often absurd statements celebrated his fictional toughness and invincibility. Norris embraced the meme, even publishing “The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book.”

Recent Function and Legacy

Norris continued to take on occasional acting roles in recent years, including appearances in “The Expendables 2” (2012) and the 2024 sci-fi action movie “Agent Recon.” He was also slated to appear in the upcoming film “Zombie Plane” alongside Vanilla Ice.
