Central Industrial Security Force Apprehends Passenger at Jama Masjid Metro Station

A routine baggage check at Delhi’s Jama Masjid Metro Station turned into an active pursuit on October 17, 2026, when a passenger attempted to flee after a dense, suspicious object appeared on the X-ray baggage inspection system screen. Central Industrial Security Force personnel chased and apprehended the man near the station exit gate, Hindustan Times reported. The suspect was carrying approximately 155 grams of an unidentified gold powder-like substance concealed inside an undergarment kept within his backpack.

The passenger was identified as Mohd. Shuaib, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh who also listed an address in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Security footage released by authorities captured Shuaib attempting to rush through the women’s frisking enclosure and toward the station escalator while carrying a black backpack. A security jawan abandoned his metal detector, took the stairs, and intercepted the suspect at Gate No. 1 before handing him over to local law enforcement.

Investigation Into Recovered Substance and Suspect Background

Following the apprehension, Assistant Sub-Inspector Masum Raza took custody of the suspect at the station. During interrogation, Shuaib stated that he worked in the textile industry in Malaysia and had arrived in Delhi on October 16, 2026, staying at a hotel near Jama Masjid before attempting to travel to Lajpat Nagar.

Police initially suspected that the recovered material might be a narcotic substance and contacted the local narcotics department for examination. Testing subsequently ruled out any psychotropic properties, confirming the material was not a narcotic. Police said the Customs authorities were informed about the incident and asked to take appropriate legal action, but they cited jurisdictional limitations and were unable to initiate action.

Authorities initiated legal proceedings against Shuaib under the Delhi Police Act at the Supreme Court Metro Police Station after he failed to provide documentary proof of ownership or a satisfactory explanation for possessing the substance.
