Central Michigan Gymnastics Finishes Strong, Takes Second at Iowa Quad Meet

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Central Michigan Chippewas gymnastics team secured a second-place finish at the Iowa Quad Meet on Friday, March 6, 2026, competing against No. 19 Iowa, Southeast Missouri State (SEMO), and Northern Illinois.1

Chippewas Score 196.025

Central Michigan recorded a team score of 196.025, surpassing both SEMO (194.600) and Northern Illinois (193.300).1 Still, they fell short against the nationally ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, who posted a score of 196.500.2 The Chippewas now hold a 12-2 overall record for the season, with both losses coming against teams ranked in the top 20 nationally.1

Event Highlights

Central Michigan demonstrated strength across all events. The team achieved a 49.200 on the floor exercise, led by senior Luciana Alvarado-Reid, who earned a score of 9.875 for third place in the event.1

The Chippewas’ uneven bars team, ranked No. 18 nationally, scored a 49.100. Graduate student Lia Kmieciak secured second place with a 9.925, while sophomore Kaitlyn Schwab achieved a career-high score of 9.875.1

On the balance beam, the team totaled 48.700, with sophomore Zoë Zimmerman achieving a career-best score of 9.800.1 The Chippewas also tied their season-best vault score with a 49.025.1

Looking Ahead

The Chippewas will return to McGuirk Arena to host their final home meet of the season against Ball State on March 13 at 6 p.m.1 The meet will also serve as Senior Night, celebrating the team’s graduating gymnasts.1
