Coinbase Expands Crypto Lending to XRP, DOGE, ADA, and LTC
Coinbase is expanding its crypto-backed lending service in the U.S., allowing users to borrow up to $100,000 in USDC against their holdings of XRP, Dogecoin (DOGE), Cardano (ADA), and Litecoin (LTC). The expansion, excluding residents of New York, provides a new avenue for accessing liquidity without requiring the sale of digital assets.
Expanding Access to Liquidity
The lending service, powered by the Morpho protocol on Coinbase’s Layer-2 Base network, enables users to leverage their crypto holdings to obtain loans in USDC. Previously limited to Bitcoin and Ethereum, the inclusion of these additional altcoins opens up access to a broader range of investors. CoinDesk reported on the expansion on February 19, 2026.
How the Lending Service Works
Users can deposit XRP, DOGE, ADA, or LTC as collateral and borrow USDC. The maximum loan-to-value (LTV) ratio for these assets is 49%, with liquidation occurring at 62.5%. Invezz details that loans are issued almost immediately upon collateral posting, with no fixed repayment schedules, allowing borrowers to repay at any time, provided risk parameters are met.
Loan Limits and Interest Rates
While Bitcoin-backed loans can reach up to $5 million and Ethereum-backed loans up to $1 million, borrowing against XRP, DOGE, ADA, and LTC is capped at $100,000. Interest rates are variable and dependent on market conditions, with a one-time borrowing fee added to the outstanding balance. Invezz likewise notes that proceeds from these loans cannot be used for trading on the Coinbase platform.
Morpho Protocol and Base Network
The service operates through Morpho, a decentralized lending protocol, handling the borrowing mechanics on-chain. It utilizes Coinbase’s Layer-2 Base network, an Ethereum scaling solution designed for secure and fast transactions. FXLeaders highlights the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of using the Base network.
USDC Conversion Rates
As of February 20, 2026, 1 USDC converts to 0.70 XRP. Conversely, 1 XRP can be traded for 1.42 USDC. Coinbase provides a cryptocurrency converter for real-time exchange rates.
