Colorfactory Returns for 30th Anniversary of Film Šeptej
Alternative band Colorfactory is returning to the live stage thirty years after the release of David Ondříček’s film Whisper, which helped popularize the group’s eponymous album. The group originally reunited for a performance at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival before a restored screening of the film.
How the Film and Album Intertwined
The album Colorfactory and the film Whisper were initially created independently of each other. Frontman David Volenec noted that the eventual intersection of their paths amplified the album’s expressive impact, while bandmate Jan P. Muchow stated that without the film, they would not be discussing sold-out shows in Roxy three decades later.
Band Lineup and Reunion Details
The reunion brings together musicians David Volenec, Colin Stuart, Jan P. Muchow, Dušan Lipert, Ivo Heger, Iva Stuartová, and Štěpán Tůma. Rehearsals began in the spring, which the members described as a smooth process driven by the same social chemistry that formed the group in the 1990s, when they won the Česká Gramy award for Discovery of the Year in 1996.
Future Tour Dates and Open Questions
Following the positive audience response at the Karlovy Vary festival and subsequent rehearsals, the group decided to extend their appearances beyond a single anniversary show, culminating in added dates including a performance in Brno. When asked if the upcoming dates represent a final stop or a new chapter for the band, Jan P. Muchow pointed to the lyrics of their song Kiss Me
with the phrase This will never end…
leaving the long-term future of the reunion open-ended.
