Washington Commanders Place Running Back Jacory Croskey-Merritt on Injured Reserve

Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt will miss at least the next four games after the team placed him on injured reserve due to a groin injury. Croskey-Merritt was officially ruled out of Monday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday before the team finalized the roster move on Monday afternoon.

The injury sidelining Croskey-Merritt alters the backfield rotation for Washington as the team prepares to face the 49ers in Santa Clara. Because the Commanders’ bye week falls in Week 7, the running back is not eligible to return to the active roster until Week 11, when Washington faces the Cincinnati Bengals.

The roster move leaves Austin Ekeler, Rachaad White, and Jeremy McNichols as the available running backs for the franchise. McNichols rejoined the active roster on Monday after recovering from a quad injury that kept him on injured reserve during the early portion of the season.

Roster Adjustments and Injury Returns in Washington

Alongside the placement of Croskey-Merritt on injured reserve, the Commanders made several other personnel changes ahead of Monday’s kickoff. Outside linebacker Javontae Jean-Baptiste was also placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury, ensuring he will miss a minimum of four games alongside Croskey-Merritt.

To offset the losses, Washington activated three players from the reserve and injured list on Monday: running back Jeremy McNichols, cornerback Trey Amos, and linebacker Jordan Magee. All three players previously carried questionable injury designations but cleared final reports without restrictions. McNichols spent weeks working through a quad injury before the team opened his 21-day practice window earlier in the month.

On the defensive side, Amos returns from an ankle injury while Magee recovers from a hamstring issue. Amos spent the offseason learning defensive coordinator Daronte Jones’ system but saw limited action in training camp. The secondary and linebacker depth additions arrive as the team plays without Jean-Baptiste and Charles Omenihu, who was previously ruled out for the matchup.

To finalize the pregame roster adjustments, the Commanders waived linebacker Austin Keys, who had been promoted from the practice squad prior to the previous week’s game against the New York Giants. Maguranyanga from the practice squad for game-day availability.
