A Celebrated Pair
Cónal Creedon, described as Cork’s cultural ambassador, is a novelist, playwright, and documentary filmmaker. He received the Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts in 2024, becoming the first Irish artist to earn the prestigious honor. Creedon was similarly conferred with an honorary doctorate in the Arts from University College Cork (UCC) last year. His work includes the RTÉ Radio series “Under the Goldie Fish” (1994-1998) and novels such as “Passion Play” and “Begotten Not Made.” He also penned collections including “Spaghetti Bowl,” “Pancho and Lefty Ride Out,” and “Pancho and Lefty Ride Again.” His “Second City Trilogy” was commissioned for Cork’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2005 and was performed in New York and Shanghai that same year.
Mairéad Hearne is a book reviewer and blogger, and a regular contributor to literary festivals, including the Irish Book Awards and the online literary journal Writing.ie. Her book blog, Swirl and Thread, is recognized as one of the top 25 Irish book blogs.
