Departmental Public Service Open to Contract Workers in France

In France, the general civil service code (Art. L332-8 provision 2) allows for the recruitment of contract workers, even when qualified civil servants have applied. This exception is made to meet the needs of services or due to the nature of the functions, particularly when a successful application from a civil servant is lacking.

Contract Duration and Eligibility

Contracts offered under this provision cannot exceed three years initially but are renewable for a maximum total duration of six years. Individuals without prior success in a civil service competition can be recruited, specifically for positions at the Category C entry level, which allows for direct recruitment without requiring completion of such a competition.
