Cooke SP3 and AP3 Lenses Now Available for Nikon Z Mount

Cooke Optics has made its SP3 and AP3 mirrorless cinema lens series available in Nikon Z mount, expanding high-end optical options for full-frame mirrorless filmmakers. According to CineD, the rollout brings Cooke’s signature look to Nikon’s growing cinema-capable mirrorless ecosystem, following previous mount releases for Sony E, Leica L, Canon RF, and Fujifilm X.

Availability and Focal Length Options

The Nikon Z-mount versions span the established SP3 and AP3 focal length lineups, offering cinematographers native mechanical and optical integration without third-party adapters. According to Newsshooter, the lenses maintain the lightweight, compact housing design that Cooke engineered specifically for mirrorless solo shooters and gimbal operators, matching the physical dimensions of existing mount variants.

Optical Characteristics and Design

Cooke designed the SP3 and AP3 series to deliver the classic “Cooke Look”—characterized by organic skin tones, gentle fall-off, and controlled flare—within a lightweight form factor suited for modern mirrorless production. According to CineD, the lenses feature interchangeable mounts, allowing users to swap between native mounts if they transition camera platforms in the future.

Compatibility with Nikon Z Systems

The native Z-mount design ensures electronic communication between the lens and Nikon bodies such as the Nikon Z9, Z8, and Zf, transmitting metadata for post-production workflows. According to Newsshooter, the lenses maintain consistent gear positioning for focus and iris rings across the entire focal length set, speeding up lens changes on set when using matte boxes and follow-focus systems.
