A Decade of Support for Uninsured Mothers in Córdoba
The Córdoba provincial government marked the 10th anniversary of its pregnancy and infant protection program, known as the Programa de Protección de la Embarazada y su Bebé, during a ceremony held Thursday at the Teatro Comedia in Córdoba. The initiative, established in 2016, provides comprehensive healthcare access, social support, and economic assistance to pregnant individuals without health insurance through the early days of life.
State Funding Framed as an Investment in the Future
During the anniversary event, Córdoba Vice Governor Myrian Prunotto addressed attendees and emphasized the state’s role in funding public health initiatives. Prunotto stated that these policies represent an investment in health, development, and the future of the province rather than a government expense.
Comprehensive Services Bridging Healthcare Gaps
The program delivers a wide range of services designed to bridge healthcare gaps for vulnerable populations. Registered beneficiaries receive scheduled health checkups, professional accompaniment, economic assistance, newborn layettes (ajuares), free transportation for medical appointments, and nutritional supplements. Additionally, specialized community spaces such as “Maternando” operate across the territory to strengthen the bond between participating families and the public health system.
Reaching More Than 115,000 Pregnant Individuals
María José Belveder, the province’s general director of Women’s Integral Health, reported at the event that the program has provided direct support to more than 115,000 pregnant individuals across the region since its inception. National Deputy Carolina Basualdo also spoke at the gathering, emphasizing the program’s statewide reach and commitment to ensuring continuous care for mothers regardless of geographic location.
Legislators and Families Gather at Teatro Comedia
Legislators Karen Acuña, Cristina Pereyra, and Carmen Suárez joined provincial authorities, healthcare teams, and hundreds of participating mothers at the Teatro Comedia. The anniversary celebration included musical performances, interactive activities, and prize drawings designed to foster a supportive community environment for expectant mothers.
