WHO Launches Global Strategy for Traditional Medicine

The World Health Organization (WHO) has introduced a new global strategy focused on traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine. This initiative aims too improve health and well-being worldwide by supporting practices that are backed by evidence. The strategy recognizes that traditional medicine isn’t just about treatments; it’s a thorough approach to health that considers the connection between people, their communities, and the environment.

According to the WHO, traditional medicine views health as a state of balance – within individuals and between them and the world around them. The organization emphasizes that restoring this balance is essential, and should be approached using scientific methods, while respecting human rights and promoting sustainability.

the new strategy seeks to integrate these traditional approaches into mainstream healthcare systems, where appropriate, and to ensure they are used safely and effectively. This includes promoting research to validate the benefits of traditional medicine and establishing quality standards for practitioners and products.

The WHO believes that by embracing a holistic view of health, and by combining the best of traditional and modern medicine, we can achieve better health outcomes for everyone.
