Coupe de la Jeunesse: A Showcase of Europe’s Top Junior Rowers
The Coupe de la Jeunesse, a prestigious international rowing competition, continues to be a vital platform for Europe’s most promising junior athletes. Established in 1985, the event has a rich history of fostering sportsmanship and excellence among rowers under the age of 19.
History and Overview
Dating back to 1985, the Coupe de la Jeunesse brings together the best junior rowers from across Europe for nearly four decades. Coupe de la Jeunesse is organized as an Olympic rowing event by the International Rowing Federation for under-19 athletes. The competition spans two days, with points awarded to countries based on their final standings in each category.
Recent Events and Locations
This summer, the Coupe de la Jeunesse took place from August 1 to 3 in Linz, Austria. The Coupe Beach Sprint followed from October 31 to November 2 in La Línea, Spain. The event rotates locations annually, typically held in a different European country during July or August, and the Beach Sprint in October/November.
Competition Categories
The Coupe de la Jeunesse features a variety of boat classes for both men and women, including:
- Men: 8+, 4+, 4-, 2-, 4x, 2x, 1x
- Women: 8+, 4-, 2-, 4x, 2x, 1x
The women’s eight was officially added to the competition in 2007 at Varèse, Italy, previously existing as a demonstration event.
Coupe de France Jeunes 2025
The final phases of the Coupe de France Jeunes are approaching, with the number of teams decreasing as the competition progresses. Matches began on May 17th and 18th, 2025. Results are available on Smoothcomp.
U18 Competition – May 17-18
In the U18 category, Saint-Nazaire hosted Rezé and CPB Rennes. For the girls, Nantes Neptunes traveled to Coulaines (Sarthe) alongside Haillan (Gironde), while Saint-Nazaire hosted Rennes EC and Cesson Saint-Brieuc.
U21 Competition
ASB Rezé competed in the U21 category, having eliminated Saint-Nazaire in the previous stage. They traveled to Cesson Rennes with Canteleu Maromme (Seine-Maritime). The Nantes Neptunes team faced Sartrouville and Lille.
Upcoming Final Phases
The final phases are scheduled for May 15, 16, and 17 for the U18s, and June 5, 6, and 7 for the U21s. Matches initiate at 11 a.m., with two teams from each group qualifying for the next round.
Other Age Groups
In the M13 category, no teams from Loire-Atlantique participated. However, Saint-Nazaire (boys) and the Neptunes de Nantes (girls) were present in the M15 category for a final round on April 5.
The Coupe Friendship Club
To strengthen the community surrounding the Coupe de la Jeunesse, the Coupe Friendship Club has been launched. This initiative aims to connect supporters, former athletes, coaches, and rowing enthusiasts, providing them with exclusive updates and opportunities to support the next generation of rowers.
