General practitioner consultations for COVID-19 rose by 76% last week compared to the preceding week, echoing predictable seasonal spikes observed every September.

Public Health Monitoring and Vaccination Timeline

Health authorities are actively tracking circulating strains to assess potential public health impacts as the colder months approach. Laurent Filleul, an epidemiologist and head of the Santé publique France cell in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, explains that while seasonal resurgences are variable, continuous variant surveillance remains essential to guard against larger epidemic waves. To mitigate severe outcomes, the vaccination campaign against both COVID-19 and seasonal influenza is set to launch concurrently on October 13.
